Overview:
AIU Online is an international for-profit university with open admissions owned by Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ:CECO). It was founded in 1970 in Lucerne, Switzerland and was first known as the American Fashion College of Switzerland. The Atlanta campus opened in 1978 with expanded degree offerings and a name change. At that time there were about 300 students on campus. Today, AIU has about 24,000 students and offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees. AIU Online accounts for more than 80% of all those enrolled.

Class Format/Schedules:
AIU offers an intensive concentration of each degree’s core classes. That mean 26 out of the 40 classes required to graduate are specific to your degree. AIU Online follows the 10-week quarter system. Each quarter consists of two sessions of five weeks each, or a single session of ten weeks. Students focus on one to two courses in each session. Students can expect to spend 10-12 hours per week for course preparation.
Classes include group projects, presentations in the form of lecture notes or interactive multimedia presentations, and real time chat with instructors. Some courses include materials found on a Web site, CD ROM, or e-Book. An AIU Mobile application gives students access to download course podcasts, Check grades, View class assignments, download course videos and access faculty information.
