Kaplan University Online is a subsidiary of the Washington Post Company. Online programs include 200 master’s, bachelor’s, and associate’s degrees, as well as certificates and diplomas. Kaplan was founded in 1937 as the American Institute of Commerce. Class Format/Schedules:
Students participate in interactive seminar sessions with classmates and educators, one-on-one instructor/student feedback sessions and Web Field Trips to conduct research using Internet research sites. Students take notes in online learning journals for later discussion. Each week’s unit includes interaction between students and instructors on discussion boards. The Kaplan Online Library has access to more than 50,000 e-books, the Kaplan University onsite library catalog, and articles from professional, scholarly, and trade journals. Services include book delivery and interlibrary loan, reference assistance via toll-free phone, email, live chat, real-time and multimedia instructional materials, and research collaboration with online library staff. The University offers more than 30 honor societies, professional clubs and student associations.

Physical Campus:
Kaplan University has 70 campus-based schools nationwide. Kaplan University’s main campus is in Davenport, with satellite campuses in Cedar Falls IA, Cedar Rapids IA, Council Bluffs IA, Des Moines IA, Hagerstown MA, Lewiston ME, Lincoln, MO, Mason City NE, Omaha NE, and South Portland ME. Tuition:
Kaplan University Online offers a free five-week trial of classes. Students then pay only if they stay. Tuition varies per degree program from $7,791 to $66,780. A full listing of all programs and their tuition rates can be found on the Kaplan University website.

Experience Credit:
Prior learning credit can be awarded for up to three courses or 75 percent of the credits required for degree or diploma programs and 50 percent of the credits required for certificate programs. Evaluations are made through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Students may request a course-by-course evaluation of their foreign credentials. All military training is reviewed by the American Council on Education (ACE). Undergraduate students can test out of a course and earn credit by attaining a predetermined score on a Kaplan University Challenge Exam or an approved external exam.
